What is Extended Warranty Insurance?

Extended Warranty Insurance (Insurance Terms & Conditions) covers the repair or replacement necessary to correct defects in the materials or workmanship of most parts manufactured or supplied by Tesla during the coverage period, excluding the car’s lithium-ion battery and drive unit, which have their own separate warranty. Coverage is based upon the purchased agreement option and takes effect on the date that your original New Vehicle Basic Limited Warranty expires.

Can anyone purchase Extended Warranty Insurance?

Model S, 3, X and Y owners whose Tesla was delivered less than 4 years ago and has less than 50,000 miles on the odometer, can buy Extended Warranty Insurance. All Tesla models purchased from Tesla as a used vehicle, are not eligible to purchase Extended Warranty Insurance.

Which options of Extended Warranty Insurance can I purchase?

You can purchase either a 2 year (or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first) or a 4 year (or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first) extension to your Tesla’s New Vehicle Basic Limited Warranty.

Can I transfer my Extended Warranty Insurance to the new owner if I sell my Tesla car?

Yes. You can transfer the unused portion of your Extended Warranty Insurance to a new private owner with the sale of your car. Please refer to your Extended Warranty Insurance policy for detailed information.

Can Extended Warranty Insurance be added to the cost of the car when financing Model S, 3, X or Y?

Extended Warranty Insurance cannot be added to the total cost of your car, whether you are financing or not. The insurance may only be purchased separately.

Can I cancel my Extended Warranty Insurance?

Yes. You can request to cancel your Extended Warranty Insurance. Please refer to your Extended Warranty Insurance policy for detailed information.

Can I upgrade or downgrade my Extended Warranty Insurance?

You cannot downgrade or upgrade your Extended Warranty Insurance once you have purchased the policy, however you can either cancel or pass the policy to the next owner.

Can my Tesla be covered by Extended Warranty Insurance if I use the car for commercial usage, such as Taxi?
